How do I protect the copyright or ownership of the song once it is complete?

If you are not yet a member of the PRS or MCPS, still the best way to register a song is to send it to yourself registered post and do not open it, alternatively it may be sent to a music lawyer. Also take a look at the MCPS/PRS Alliance website for a more detailed explanation.

What does it cost to join Songwriter Connect?

The cost for full membership is Ł20($35 approx) per year, we will send you an e-mail one month before your membership ends for you to decide if you wish to continue, there is no automatic continuation.

I want to place my song with an established artist,
do I need to get my song properly produced and recorded or is it sufficient to sing into a tape recorder and send off the results.

You would think that an A&R person or manager would be able to hear a great song in whatever state it is in. Not so I am afraid to say. If you are placing a track with an established artitst it would be advisable to get the song sounding as close as possible to the kind of material that artist produces. It is a very competitve market at the moment and it really should sound as good as possible.

Songwriter Connects' primary objective is to bring together songwriters for co-writes although in the future we are looking at bringing in a song appraisal and writer representation sections.

As a lyricist the best thing to do would be to find a musical partner, someone who can provide the backing music for your words and or melodies.

I am a singer, why do I need to find a songwriter or producer to write with now, surely when I get a recording contract the record company will have songs for me to sing.

They may well have songs ready for you to record although the reality is now Record Companies are spending less & less on developing artists and are really looking for projects that are ready to be released and probably the most important factor is the strength of your songs.The songs are what make you as an artist different from everyone else, a company will hear countless cover versions of well known songs.
